Ramallah, West Bank – The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has documented at least 80 violations against Palestinian journalists in April 2025, calling on the international community to take urgent action to ensure their protection amid ongoing hostilities.
In a statement issued by its Freedoms Committee, the Syndicate accused Israeli forces of systematically targeting journalists, including through lethal means such as airstrikes and live ammunition. According to the report, three journalists were killed in the Gaza Strip during April alone.
The documented violations include four incidents involving live fire directed at media crews, the destruction of three journalists’ family homes, the arrest of four journalists, and the physical assault of five others. The Syndicate also reported 25 instances of detention or obstruction of media coverage, and noted that 11 journalists were exposed to toxic tear gas.
Additional cases involved threats, incitement, verbal harassment, raids on journalists’ homes, and what the Syndicate described as “unjust” legal proceedings.
The organization said these violations have increased despite its ongoing efforts to engage international and human rights organizations to advocate for the safety and rights of media workers.
According to the Syndicate, the total number of Palestinian journalists killed since the escalation of violence in October 2023 has risen to 210 as of the end of April 2025.
