Multimedia journalist Zihadul Islam was brutally tortured and also threatened to leave capital after kidnapped from Dhaka, Bangladesh on Thursday, October 26.

The journalist was missing until 8 hours and then he was returned to the same place from where he was kidnapped, Zihadul said. He was injured and on treatment at Dhaka medical hospital, confirmed by his friends.

The journalist was taken blindfolded from nearby Rajarbagh police hospital to a secluded place and then tortured on him and also threatened to leave capital otherwise he was killed, Zihadul said. He was mentally broken after this incident also said.

Journalist Zihadul was before threatened to kill in Dhaka by a multimedia journalist political syndicates. Zihadul filed a general dairy on Tuesday, 17th October at Hatirjheel Police Station, Dhaka against so called political leader, Ripon Gazi and multimedia journalist Akram Hossain from Daily Kalbela.

A show cause notice has been issued to Akram from his office to see his explanation, involvement and intension, said Kalbela online portal Editor Palash Mahmud to The Rummage.   

Based on a talk show program at Desh Rupantor, Mr. Ripon together with journalist Akram threatened to kill journalist Zihadul. Ripon was a guest at Desh Rupantor talk show program as a ruling party Awami league leader. Ripon claimed, ‘In the talk show program camera person did not focus him properly.’ For this reason after the talk show Ripon’s friend Kalbela journalist Akram called Zihadul in a tea stall in Dhaka. Akram and Zihadul both are the student of Stamford University, Dhaka also.

Desh Rupantor journalist Sunmoon Ahmed who also has a good relation with Ripon and Akram admitted to The Rummage that Akram and Ripon together tortured Desh Rupantor multimedia journalist Zihadul. Journalist Sunmoon also admits Akram’s mistake but he said, ‘That kind of threat is normal, it’s not a big issue.’
