At least 49 journalists were killed in one month between Israel and Gaza war. 44 among them are Palestinian journalists were killed by Israeli strike in Gaza Strip. 4 Israeli and 1 Lebanese journalists were also killed. 8 journalists were reported injured, 3 were reported missing and 13 journalists were reported arrested.
44 Palestinian journalists were killed by Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip since October 7, confirmed by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS). Some journalists were killed with their entire families when their homes were bombarded. At the same time, many journalists have lost some members of their families in the Israeli attacks. 25 Palestinian journalists were detained. Dozens of social media activists detained for their writings on social media platforms, confirmed by PSJ.
Journalists in Gaza face particularly high risks as they try to cover the conflict in the face of an Israeli ground assault on Gaza City, devastating Israeli airstrikes, disrupted communications, and extensive power outages.
Abdelrahman tells Al Jazeera, adding that journalists wearing clearly marked press vests and helmets have been targeted.
“We can’t cover the site of massacres or even get to the places that have been bombed for fear that another Israeli attack will target the same area,” Abdelrahman said to Al Jazeera.
“Every second you are in danger. Our colleagues have paid the price with their lives, such as Saeed al-Taweel, Mohammed Subh and Hisham Alnwajha.”, He added.
“When there is no internet, this results in censoring the journalist as they cannot report on information or news in different areas in the Gaza Strip,” Shorouq Shaheen, a correspondent for Syria TV says.
Journalists are being mostly targeted in the war. AlAraby TV correspondent Ahmed Darawsha was threatened and screamed when he was covering live on the ground in Ashdod, Israel. An Israeli police officer was interrupting during live and threatened him, said Ahmed Darawsha.
The war between Israel and Gaza has resulted in hostile treatment and targeting of the media and journalists. Israel decided to shut down Al Jazeera and threatened to ban BBC from the country. This is a reflection of extreme hateful behavior on the media.
Israel has warned it could stop the BBC from reporting in the country for refusing to call Hamas terrorists, as the broadcaster admitted it was wrong to speculate that a rocket that hit a Gaza hospital was an ‘Israeli air strike’. A senior Israeli official said the government could take action if the BBC continued crossing the line in accordance with our law. It came after Israel’s president Isaac Herzog said its policy of referring to Hamas as militants was ‘atrocious’.
The Israeli government approved regulations on Friday, October 20, that will allow it to temporarily shut down foreign news channels during the current state of emergency due to the war with Hamas, if it believes the outlet is damaging national security, Times of Israel report.
The country’s Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi has led the charge to pass these regulations in order to shut down the Al Jazeera news channel, which he claims has damaged national security.

Assaulted
Police assaulted Firas Lutfi, a correspondent with privately owned Sky News Arabia, along with other Sky News journalists in the southern city of Ashkelon, according to members of the television crew. Lutfi said Israeli police aimed rifles at his head, forced him to remove his clothes, confiscated the team’s phones, and made them leave the area under police escort.
On October 13, BBC journalists Muhannad Tutunji and Haitham Abudiab were assaulted and held at gunpoint after being stopped by Israeli police in Tel Aviv, BBC report.
On 15 October, Ahmed Darawsha, AlAraby TV correspondent was assaulted during Israel and Gaza war live news coverage. An Israeli police officer was interrupting during live and threatened and screamed him, said Ahmed Darawsha to AlAraby TV.

Oded’s wife was one of the two hostages released by Hamas on October 24, 2023, according to The Times of Israel and The Telegraph.
Nidal Al-Wahidi
A Palestinian photographer from the Al-Najah channel, Al-Wahidi was reported missing by MADA. Later, Al-Wahidi’s family informed the media that the journalist had been detained by the Israeli army.
Haitham Abdelwahid
A Palestinian photographer from the Ain Media agency, Abdelwahid was also reported missing by MADA.
