2 Palestinian Journalists killed, 1 disappear during news coverage

At least two Palestinian journalists were killed and one disappears while covering news fighting along Gaza’s border with Israel on Saturday, 8 October.  

Palestinian journalist Mohammad Al Salehi was killed by an Israeli army bullet while covering the news at the border east of al-Bureij, in the central Gaza Strip according to the official news agency of the Palestinian Authority WAFA.  

Another Palestinian journalist Nidal Al-Wahidi was also killed by Israeli bombing attack near the Erez crossing confirmed by Middle East Observer report.  

Before that WAFA news report said, two Palestinian journalists, Nidal Al-Wahidi and Haitham Abdel Wahid disappeared while covering the Israeli aggression on Gaza. In a statement the Palestinian journalists syndicate expressed deep concern over the sudden disappearance of two Journalists Al-Wahidi and Abdel Wahid during their coverage of the developments near the Beit Hanoun military checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip. Contact with the two journalists has been lost, leading to grave concerns for their safety and well-being.    

The Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate has called upon the International Red Cross and international organizations for international intervention to determine fate of missing journalists.

On Saturday morning, dozens of Palestinian fighters raided Israeli bases in the region, catching the Israeli security apparatus off guard. Israel has declared ‘a state of readinesses for war after Hamas launched an unprecedented military operation against Israel, infiltrating from sea, land, and air into Israeli military camps and residential areas under the cover of thousands of rockets.

“Today the people are regaining their revolution,” he said in the recorded message, as he called on Palestinians from east Jerusalem to northern Israel to join the fight and “expel the occupiers and demolish the walls.”

Israeli radio said Hamas fighters have taken 35 Israelis captive.

The leader of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, announced the beginning of what he called “Operation Al Aqsa Flood.”
